Do we know if eMail was ever implemented in the Office System internally at Apple?

I've read references to Apple having AppleBus up and working internally, and the Lisa fonts include an in and out basket icon, very similar to Star's.

If the source ever got released, perhaps that would shed more light on this question...

As far as I know from talking to Ron Hochsprung, the only deployed AppleNet was in Texas for machine burn-in testing.
There is no AppleNet code in the 7/7 sources.
