Error 82, can someone explain it in layman's terms
« on: October 07, 2021, 09:00:19 pm »

I have been desperately trying to fix my Lisa widget for about 4 months since it croaked.  :(
it has been returning error 82. I have read from a post from Patrick,
Error 82 means "bad response" (drive did not send 0x01 after /PCmd set low) .
Can some one explain this in simpler terms as I am not well versed and having trouble understanding.
Is there a specific component/board that is lead to Error 82?
Have re- seated all boards, cleaned any socketed chip arms and bought a replacement Motherboard which gives same result. The drive spins up but does absolutely nothing else.
It was working wonderfully from about March this year until June.
Unit had been in storage and not powered on since around 1996.  Macintosh XL with MacWorks Plus.
Thanks in advance!!

This is the very first response after the Lisa tries to access your drive. If this fails, your drive is not there. Could be a broken cable, an interface fault, or your controller board is not working at all (broken Z8, erased EPROM,...).
