More exciting news!

With the help of Scott Lewis (who dumped the disk years ago) and James MacPhail, we tracked down a disk image of LisaTerminal 1 on Twiggy! Assuming it works, this completes the publicly-available disk image suite of 7 tools for Lisa Office System 1.

As usual, the disk has been deserialized and de-bozoed. Hopefully soon, I'll get some screenshots from Tim Colegrove's testing on his Lisa 1 to post as well!

LisaTerminal on a Lisa 1 at last. It's not too different from LisaTerminal from LOS 3, but a bit more stripped down.

Installation is straightforward. The copy protection bit is disabled, as advertised, so there's no message about you serialising your floppy image as you copy items over.

Unsurprisingly, it's all kinds of slow. The default speed setting is 1200 BPS, and this is probably a good choice:

There is no hardware flow control option, evidently.

One thing that seems necessary is that you'll need to open up Preferences/Device Connections and connect a "Remote Computer" to the serial port you wish to use. If you don't do this, LisaTerminal complains of having difficulty when you try to exit local mode and go online.

Once you've done that, you can use the communications settings (see the first link above) and use the bottom option (Communication) to switch to online mode. You should be in business. I hooked up my Linux box over a serial cable and said sudo agetty -L 1200 ttyS0 vt100 to establish a login prompt, which you will probably have to specialise to your Linux machine if you're inclined to do something similar.

The nano editor works fine, it seems:

but vim might be too much of a challenge for LisaTerminal's VT100 emulation. Whatever the case, as with later versions, the Apple key is your control key.

There isn't much else to note. As with everything else Lisa, patience is a virtue. The only other thing to point out perhaps is that the owner of the original LisaTerminal disk chose to back it up a little more than 39 years ago:
