An unknown apple Profile ROM spotted on ebay

(1/3) > >>

TorZidan:

It's always cool to find something that has been lost in history.
Ther ebay auction at https://www.ebay.com/itm/235749071615?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tzQ-GXMtStC&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=hdLtUILgS0C&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY has a picture (attached below) of an apple profile contro board with a "341-0236" ROM.
Googling it does not fetch any meaningful results. Enjoy.

Note: the auction has ended, I did not bid on it.

Maybe "0236" is "0286"?

I have a note received circa 2011 (handwritten but not signed, so author unknown) that 341-0286 is the 10MB ProFile operating ROM.

The 4K Z8 is also an indicator of a ProFile controller set up for 10MB.

This is it.  Mistery solved. I was able to find "341-0286-A" at https://wiki.reactivemicro.com/Apple_Chip_Designations .
Also, this is a 4kx8 eprom, unlike the 2kx8 used on the 5MB profile.

Completely anecdotal, but I have 10 5MB ProFiles and only 1 10MB ProFile. They seem rather difficult to find.

I wonder if that 10:1 ratio corresponds to actual production numbers?

Similar situation here. I've got 7 5MB ProFiles, and only 1 10MB drive, although it's a prototype drive designed to fit inside the Lisa so I'm not sure if that even really counts as a "true" 10MB ProFile. So your 10:1 figure might not be too far off!

They definitely don't pop up very often on eBay!
