I recently acquired a 1.8a power supply with a loose piece clunking around inside.
Turns out the smaller transformer had broken loose from its plastic base. I found a thread here:

...describing the same thing with the possible solution of a suitable substitute. Has anyone actually accomplished this transplant?  The Triad VPL36 700 is still readily available.

And yes, obviously, there are lots of other visible issues with this power supply...

I now think the VPL36-700 is way-overkill for this; I should have revised the suggestion after doing the brownout adjustment measurements which suggested the expected +5STBY load would be 100mA, not 500mA. I just measured the output from an original as 29VAC with a 100mA load.

A PC mount transformer that fits is, I think, a more suitable replacement, in spite of being only 6VA. (Unless you have a specific application where you need more +5STBY current, such as an X/Pi expansion card with a hungry Raspberry Pi that you want to keep running when the Lisa is shut down.)

I would try the "Signal Transformer" brand DST-4-28, or Triad brand FS28-200. I believe these have a footprint that matches the DataPower circuit board, and are rated for an output of 28VAC at 200mA. Currently in stock at the usual suspects.

Warning: Memory errors found. ECC non-functional. Verify comments if accuracy is important to you.

As usual, thanks for the info.

I've ordered new caps and the transformer and will give this a go.  I've also been following the dialogue you've been having with @berskyboy RE his 1.8a PSU in anticipation that these two easy and cheap fixes I'm doing won't magically get this power supply working.

Thanks again!
