Lisa 2/10 Corrupted compact disk on X/ProFile

I'm currently repairing a Lisa and got it working with an X/ProFile I bought earlier this year from VintageMicros just before his retirement. I ordered together with the interface a bunch of compact disk cards with OS version on them. I contacted John but he couldn't help me anymore.

At a certain point while testing the different OS versions, the power supply failed (a capacitor blew up) and the system broke down. I repaired the power supply but the OS card is corrupted, so now I'm not sure how I can fix this.

Does anyone know who could help me to find someone that has the original img files so I can overwrite the cards again?

Thank you!

Which operating system and version number do you need to restore to the compact flash card??

Once we know which files you need, you can use an AppleScript utility and compact flash card reader to restore the CF cards: https://lisalist2.com/index.php/topic,664.0.html

I would need both LOS 1.0 with 6 apps and LOS 1.2 with LisaTerminal. Would it be possible to have access to all versions, or is there a reason why that isn't feasible? In case any other would be corrupted in the future.

I would love to have online access to all versions of the various operating systems that run on the Lisa. However, I am not aware of anyone (outside of VintageMicros) who owns all of the X/ProFile CF card images, or what the implications of sharing those might be.

Please note that LOS 1.x doesn't run on a Lisa 2/10 (LOS 2 and 3.x are required). Still, here are the two specific image files that you've requested, attached. X/ProFile settings are in the filenames.

Yes, the floppy images on bitsavers can be used to make new hard disk images. The impediment of requiring working Twiggy drives will be relieved once the ESFloppy is more widely available.

Why can't I run them on the profile emulator on a 2/10? I'm not sure what the difference is that prevents it from running and what the mode and target do internally?

I managed before to start up the LOS 1.0 with 6 apps on my 2/10 before.

I also recently purchased one that I installed in my own Lisa 2/10.

Not the ESProFile, the ESFloppy (which will emulate two Twiggy drives): https://github.com/alexthecat123/ESFloppy/, but that will require a Lisa 1 I/O Board, not a 2/10 I/O Board.

The 2/10 I/O Board never had Twiggy support (as far as we know there is no 2/10 I/O Board ROM that understands Twiggies, although it seems technically possible).

Perhaps LisaEm will do Twiggies some day. As of today, I believe the options are real Twiggies or the LisaFPGA.

edit: Apparently LisaEm can do Twiggies now too, so that's another way of creating a new LOS 1.x disk image.

I added support for Twiggies in LisaEm more than a year ago.

Choosing an I/O rom of "40" in the LisaEm preferences unlocks it, so that you can "insert" and "eject" twiggy floppy disk image files.

To insert a twiggy floppy in the lower drive, hold down the "shift" key when choosing the "Insert dikette" LisaEm menu item.

Note that LisaEm cannot use x/ProFile hard disk image files.

Fantastic, thank you!

A work-around would be to create a new LOS 1.x ProFile image in LisaEm, then convert it and move it to an X/ProFile CF card as Ried suggested using tools such as these: https://lisalist2.com/index.php/topic,664.0.html

A similar tool to change the X/ProFile format to the LisaEm DC42 format could be arranged if there is some need for it. Or perhaps it already exists in Ray's toolbox or elsewhere.

edit: one can also use BLU as an intermediary to transfer ProFile images from one technology to another using a serial port.
