Title: How to use Apple Profile ROM "341-2001-F"?
Post by: TorZidan on September 24, 2024, 11:25:30 pm
I acquired this ROM in a batch with some other vintage chips from ebay.
It's a 16kx8 eprom model number "341-2001-F".  Googling it does not yield any meaningful results.
I dumped it into a .BIN file (attached here into a zip file). Looking ast the file contents, it looks like some kind of interractive apple profile testing , 10-hour burn-in test, low-level formatting utility.
Great, but how do I use it?
Could it be part of the Appple III testing interface card described at https://dn790002.ca.archive.org/0/items/DTCA3DOC_078_ProfFileRepair/DTCA3DOC_078_ProfFileRepair.pdf, page 454?

I believe that's the ROM for the Sun20 MFM controller (which is a ProFile emulator).

If that's correct, see: Sun20 Formatting Issues (https://lisalist2.com/index.php/topic,416.msg3044.html#msg3044)

And since that's the Revision F ROM, I believe it'll only work with the version of the Sun20 controller that has three PLCC chips. If I remember correctly, the 3-chip controller works with F ROMs and D ROMs, while the one PLCC chip version of the controller requires Revision C ROMs.

Interesting. I don't have this board, so I wont be able to use this rom. I found this relevant article
online, but the rom there is labeled differently.

Yep, the one in the photo seems to be the exact same ROM that you have. They're just labeled differently for some reason. Both of my Sun20 ROMs are labeled like the one in the picture, but I guess some of them were labeled like yours as well!
