Title: Word Processing in MW+2 how to get text to "outside world"? and FloppyEMU info
Post by: bmwcyclist on March 02, 2025, 02:47:22 pm
I am having great fun in MW+2. I have used my FloppyEMU to install some apps such as MacWrite 4

IMPORTANT, using the FloppyEMU set the PFG floppy control panel to "BASIC" (as stock machine) or it will take ages for the floppys to mount, read or write.

I am much closer to my desire to use my LISA to write articles for my work/blogs.

Does anyone know how to convert MacWrite 4x documents to something that can be used in modern MSWord?

Or does anyone have MSWord for Mac on 800k floppy image format?

Even using the 'text only' format in MacWrite turns into junk when exported into MSWord 2013.

My workflow:

Save MacWrite document as native or text only to FloppyEMU 800k disk
Open 800k disk in CiderPress.
Export in CiderPress as text only or any of the other formats.
Open in MSWord 2013 and try import options, none produce readable text.

Any suggestions?

Good reminder! I'll add that to the MW+II notes topic.

Try http://www.macintoshgarden.org (http://www.macintoshgarden.org)  and  http://www.macintoshrepository.org (http://www.macintoshrepository.org)

I'm surprised that doesn't work. If you create a document in TeachText (which will be plain text) and then try to bring it to MSWord 2013, does it do the same thing?

If moving files on a regular basis, I suggest using a network will be a great convenience. You could use either the serial port localtalk option, or a SCSI Ethernet adapter; at the other end you'll need a system old enough to speak the early version of AppleTalk/AppleShare protocol. IIRC that limits you to something like OSX 10.2 or earlier, so you may end up with an intermediary machine between the Lisa and your modern computer.
