Title: Asante' EN/SC and MacWorks+II, Sun SCSI, address error
Post by: bmwcyclist on October 15, 2025, 08:46:41 pm
Good news is that I managed to score an Asante EN card

Bad news is that although I got the driver installed and I've got a link light I can't select alternative ethernet in the networking control panel and when I go to the troubleshooter, I get an address error

I'm running system 71 under MAC works, I've plugged the SCSI to ethernet adapter to my sun SCSI card with and without a passive terminator.

I don't currently have an XLerator installed.

2 megs of RAM.

You're using the patched version of MacTCP 2.1, correct?

The Glen Anderson version? No. Not yet. will give it a try tonight.

I did not see not being able to use the Asante in the list of fixes for it.

I use the Asante Mini EN/SC 10T, so will try a similar configuration and report.

My guess is that you don't have enough memory. I think System 6.0.8 might be the optimal choice for a 2MB Lisa with no XLerator.

Although it will consume some memory, I suggest you install MacsBug as it will provide a means to get more information when an error occurs (eg. although running the troubleshooter may have triggered it, what software ultimately generated the address error?), and can sometimes facilitate getting past an error (eg. by exiting a particular application) without having to reboot the machine, allowing you to save other work before restarting.

edit: corrected to "Mini"

Getting the same issue with system 6.0.5

Wondering if you are using images of previously installed Systems obtained elsewhere, or performing the installation yourself on the Lisa using images of Apple floppies (or Apple's Net Installer)?

and... are the Systems displaying the issue installed as "Universal for all Macs, Recommended System for Mac Plus, or Minimum System for Mac Plus, etc."

and... do they have anything extra installed in addition to the Asante and MW+II software?
