Title: Where, or how, do I find a Lisa 2/5 internal 3 pin power to 6 pin cable?
Post by: Sterling on August 18, 2026, 10:01:58 PM
Search doesn't work very well for this subject, so I apologize if this is already on the forum somewhere.

I've got two 2/5 machines with the 3 pin power cable and SOMEHOW I've misplaced the little "conversion" cable that goes from 3 pin to the Sun Remarketing 6 (8) hard drive controller boards.

I've got three variations of the Sun Remarketing hard drives, all with the six pin power headers.

What's the best avenue or solution for me now? I don't just have these types of molex parts laying around.

There is no such conversion cable as the 3 pin connector does not have the required voltages on it.

The six pin header is only for power in 2/10 machines.
For 2/5 machines, power is obtained via another 26 pin header that connects to the longer "Upper" Twiggy ribbon cable...

It might do damage if plugged in backwards, so research/measure.

edit: I suppose a next question might be "Then how do I connect the data cable?"...

The data cable is a separate ribbon cable that connects to the 26 pin connector P1 on the Sun Controller board, and is routed through the slots inside the chassis and finally plugs into the 25 pin D connector parallel port on the back panel of the motherboard. (If your motherboard has only two 25 pin D connectors, those are both serial ports and you have a 2/10 motherboard... do not plug a hard drive into those.)

I think the three pin actually does have the power needed for Sun Remarketing HD cages.

This is the mapping as far as AI had led me. If it's lead me astray, then let me know:

[ Lisa 2/5 3-Pin MATE-N-LOK ]
   ├── Black (GND)          ────────►  Molex KK 396 Pins 4 & 6
   ├── Green/White (+5V)    ────────►  Molex KK 396 Pins 1 & 3
   └── Orange/White (+12V)  ────────►  Molex KK 396 Pins 2 & 5
(Pin 7: Polarizing Key / Empty)
                                       (Pin 8: Disconnected)

Best not to take my word for it, and not AI's either. It's also possible your wiring is different/non-original. Check with a voltmeter.
