Stuffit archive of MW+II beta version 2.5.3

This is a relatively recent (circa 2011) update to MW+II.

Changes in 2.5.3 may include:

1) The year is stored in the PFG Parameter RAM, so it is not limited to the 16 year range of the COPS, and it is maintained even when power is removed. (The time and day of year will still be lost when power is removed.)

2) On a Lisa 2/10 aka Macintosh XL, floppy disks are "zero'ed" before initializing, so a previously initialized disk can be successfully re-initialized (previously there was a 75% or higher failure rate when attempting to re-initialize a mac disk on an XL with an 800k drive). This feature was added prior to development of the universal 400k/800k I/O Board ROM "XLSSDSM6.bin" (see https://lisalist2.com/index.php/topic,163.msg1214.html#msg1214) that fixed the XL re-initialization problem, so disks will be zero'd even if that ROM is installed.

3) The requirement for a Z85230 ESCC to be installed to run System 7.5 was removed. ie. System 7.5 will run with the standard Z8530 SCC. (PFG is still required.) LocalTalk performance may be better with the ESCC, or maybe with the SCC, reports vary so it may depend on what else is on the network.

Usage:

When unstuffed, you'll find the MW+II Installer Application with the name MW(beta)2.5.3, where (beta) is the Sharp-S or Eszett character generated by typing option-S

To install on a parallel port hard disk, run the application as usual (you need to be running MW+II, so use the boot disk for MW+II 2.5.0 if necessary)

To use with QuickBoot or the LSAC, put the installer application in your (blessed) system folder, and rename to exactly 3 characters "MW+" or "MW(beta)", where (beta) is option-S
(A perhaps obscure feature of QuickBoot is that it looks for MW(beta), and if found asks if you want to load that instead of MW+)

Continue to use the v2.3.0 control panels, eg. from the MW+II 2.5.0 install disk
You may use the "MW+II -> Floppy" application, eg. from the MW+II 2.5.0 install disk, to make a bootable MW+II 2.5.3 disk
