Hi,

I got my ESProfile from Juicy Crumb and put the following files on an SD Card called

/Users/berskyboy/Downloads/cameo-master/aphid/profile_plugin_FFFEFC_selector_rescue.py
/Users/berskyboy/Downloads/cameo-master/aphid/profile_plugin_FFFEFD_system_info.py
/Users/berskyboy/Downloads/cameo-master/aphid/profile_plugin_FFFEFE_filesystem_ops.py
/Users/berskyboy/Downloads/cameo-master/aphid/profile_plugin_FFFEFF_key_value_store.py
/Users/berskyboy/Downloads/cameo-master/aphid/profile_plugins.py
/Users/berskyboy/Documents/Vintage Folder/Apple Lisa/Lisa Pi3 Folder/selector.image

and it boots up and recognizes the parallel port but gives a garbled screen when I boot from parallel port

I'm wondering if I've setup the SD Card improperly?, the Lisa is looking for the modded MacWorks XL? Or maybe another issue?

I also tried this in the Manual from
https://github.com/stepleton/cameo/blob/master/aphid/selector/MANUAL.md

Type in the following two lines to enter a short program into the Lisa's memory:

2900 223C 00FF FEFC 227C 00FE 0090 50C2 50C3↵
2910 50C4 4ED1↵
where ↵ means to press the Return or ↵ key. You must include all of the spaces shown. Note that the 2 at the start of each line will not appear on the screen: it selects the "SET MEMORY" function from the "SERVICE MODE" menu.

TorZidan

It seems that you have the square-pixel "3A" rom, which cannot properly display the Selector screen (and LOS), so you are limited to running MacWorks XL and perhaps some unix-es.

The Selector eventually will work. We've been waiting for @stepleton to find some free time to "lick that cookie": https://lisalist2.com/index.php?topic=886.msg6973#msg6973

Or you can procure and install "H" ROMs and its corresponding video ROM.

mst3k

Try renaming one of Macworks files to profile.image.

Ok how do I go about doing

install "H" ROMs and its corresponding video ROM.

What do I look for to buy?  Also will the ESProfile load MacXL?

mst3k

Go here:

(images referenced by Alex on GitHub)

Grab a MacWorks image and copy it to your SD card.

Rename the existing profile.image on the sd card to something else.

Change the name of your new MacWorks image to profile.image (no caps).

Boot.

Worked for me.

YES that works!!!

Here's a YouTube Video...

BUT... how can I get the LOS 3 on it?  Or is that a way more complicated process?

TorZidan has your answer for LOS's. (You need 'H' ROMS).

Then Stepleton's Selector will work too and you can choose just about anything.

ah you mean this will eventually solve it?

Yes I can wait for that.  It would be nice to have a way to run both!

AlexTheCat123

No, the Selector update alone won't solve anything for LOS. LOS explicitly requires the H ROMs, so you'll have to install them if you ever want to run it. I'm not sure if anyone sells ROMs anymore now that VintageMicros is in the process of moving under new management.

stepleton

The plan remains to upgrade the Selector in December. I have the entire month off (for this project and for other things).

What do I look for to buy?

  • A pair of Lisa CPU Board EPROMs, revision H which have Apple part numbers something like 341-0175-H and 341-0176-H
  • A Lisa CPU Board Video PROM which has an Apple part number of 371-0072

The programmed contents of these is available on BitSavers, so with an EPROM programmer, you can purchase a pair 2764 sized EPROMs to erase and re-use, but the Video PROM is normally not erasable.

There is an adapter design to use an EPROM in lieu of the one-time-programmable 20 pin bipolar PROM, but I've not tried it.

Note that the Video PROM contains the Lisa's Serial Number, so there are numerous variants of the programmed contents of this part (containing different serial numbers).

I believe you are in Canada with me, so I may be able to provide these; contact me privately to discuss.

Quote from: AlexTheCat123 on October 06, 2026, 03:42:16 PMYou're getting low-high-high beeps though, which means that you have a RAM error. One of the memory chips on one of the two RAM boards probably went bad, or a board could also just be making a bad connection with its slot. First try reseating both boards, but if that doesn't fix the problem, then you'll need to go into Service Mode and follow the instructions at this link to figure out which chip is bad. But obviously you can't do that until the video board is fixed!

https://lisafaq.sunder.net/single.html#lisafaq-hw-mem_error

To test the keyboard, try pressing Apple-S (which enters Service Mode) after the error beeps. You should see the screen change rather significantly. If you haven't replaced the foam and foil pads inside your keyboard yet, then it is very unlikely to work until you do that.

My RAM 70 error.

This is what I'm getting when I test the RAM. (slot 2 I called A, Slot 1 I called B)

B is good, A seems to have errors.  But it does show 908k in Mac XL

Back to trying to get LOS 3 working.....

so I'm assuming I need to replace these two ROMS

• Top Chip: 341-0242-A
• Bottom Chip: 341-0243-A

with

• High ROM Socket (Top): 341-0175-H
• Low ROM Socket (Bottom): 341-0176-H

Yes, plus the CPU Board Video PROM located at C6 mentioned by sigma7:

Quote from: sigma7 on <strong>Yesterday</strong> at 01:55:27 PM
  • A Lisa CPU Board Video PROM which has an Apple part number of 371-0072

Yours is part number 341-0348, which is for Macintosh XL computers that boot only Mac OS. If you want to boot LOS, you'll need to remove that PROM and replace it with 371-0072, and disconnect the transformer between the Lisa's Video Board and the CRT - thereby enabling Lisa Office System's native resolution.
