The Mac mouse was released with the Mac. To the best of my recollection, Mac XL used the Lisa mouse because that's what it originally shipped with. The Mac mouse just happened to be compatible.

I don't think Apple ever shipped a Lisa or Mac XL with a Mac mouse (obviously not before the Mac was released), but I could be wrong.
