Here's the simplest case. If I startup with no profile, I get to the screen asking for a disk - showing "continue" and "startup from..." buttons. If I just move the mouse around the screen, it moves smoothly for a bit (of order 1 second) and then sticks for a similar period, and then this behaviour simply repeats. Each time it gets stuck the MHz shoots up to maybe 70MHz. In fact, as I write this I can see the emulator running in another window, and the speed is just switching back and forth between 1.8 MHz and 70+ MHz over and over, with nothing else going on.
