I tried modifying the image directly with a hex editor (not sure if there would be any difference between hex-editing the image file itself, or hex-editing the contents of the image) so that the kernel would load /bin/sh instead of /etc/init, and it still hung at the same place. Also, the hard disk kernel hangs there too. Maybe the root filesystem is corrupt on the floppy, and both hard disk and floppy kernels are "hanging" because they can't mount the root FS for different reasons (the floppy kernel because the FS is corrupt, and the HD one becuase the disk contains no FS)?
