Hi everybody,
and "hello Rick", nice to hear from you again, it's been a long time... since you tested the Lisa-Server. Perhaps you remember the first tests and the results, when you hat to shut down the system due to a storm coming up at that night with thunder and lightning
Well, in my opinion a modificated Lisa has a little less historical
value.
It doesn't matter whether it's an upgraded Lisa 1 to Lisa 2 or it's a
screen-modificated Lisa 2 or it's a Lisa, where different parts have
been replaced due to their age and reliability... it's simple not THE
original manufactured Lisa
and much more important for me as a former collector:
There will be huge efforts to made for re-modificate the Lisa with
origin parts again!
Sometimes even impossible, because the needed parts for doing that
aren't still availlable :-(
I remember maybe 10 years ago, there has been a post in former
LisaList. A guy asked for a non-working Lisa to modify. But he didn't
intend to repair the Lisa again or his mod wasn't a simple screen-
upgrade, no... he really wanted only to use the case to build a retro-
computer containing "modern" technology: a pentium-board running
Windows 98
Perhaps some of the members here in the list remember the yelling
"OH, NO!" replys to that post.
There was a short time but also intens discussion, about the pros and
cons of this project.
The posts weren't as friendly and liberal as these in the discussion
now; perhaps because of the fact that those mod could have been
considered a sacrilege :-)
So, what ever you do, you should treat a Lisa with the respect it deserves! I think it's more than only a computer: It's a small milestone in computer-history and compared to the first Mac (which in press is always ment to be a revolution) the Lisa with its hardware architecture and the immense progress in its software LOS deserves that title "break in the universe" more than every other computer of Apple Inc.
... in my opinion only, of course!
greetings: TOM from Bavaria, the center of europe, the marvellous castles of Koenig Ludwig e.g. Neuschwanstein and last but not least the original Oktoberfest ! ... and the perhaps not really perfect english-speaking but much better bavarian-speaking people there *grin*
