there's instances where the edge connector fingers can be eroded by corrosion. I've contemplated seeking to remove them, cut a thin strip from shim stock and epoxying in it's place. you can usually loosen/remove circuit board traces with heat, which is why you have to be careful when desoldering or soldering. but vinegar in salt is the accepted method. I used white vinegar, but I don't think I put salt in the solution. Online it'll tell you to dissolve all the salt you can until you can dissolve anymore. I used pvc sheet material from Walmart for submersion, a made to order somewhat form fitting container. Unless you want to purchase gallons and gallons. Because I did it a little differently, stuck the actual motherboard with the cards sitting vertically, though dislodged from their connectors.

I was able to bring back two horribly corroded 2/5 motherboards by soaking them overnight in a diluted vinegar solution.  The edge connectors looked like a write-off but they came out of the bath gleaming and have worked fine since.
