So an update to this...

I managed to find a new old stock Qume Sprint 11, the OEM version of the DWP, locally on eBay. A few dollars later it was delivered to my door!

Before I took it apart I painted a pinwheel and made a couple slow motion videos of it printing.
Here's the built in self test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djvOpJMppuc And a longer video printing a document:

It's amazing what you see in the slow mo video... how the printer uses speed control to move the carriage and platen as quickly as possible, and keep it in sync with the printwheel.

The parts printer was made in 1993, and the original belt was in good shape. There are a few wiring differences but I think I can make repairs to the Apple printer using its parts.

One problem I have now is that the reference photos I took of the wiring going to the carriage motor and lid switch are insufficient. There are two white wires, a red, and a black.

Here's some links to high res pictures I took. I can't tell where the red wire should be going... in one photo it looks like it goes right to the motor, in another it's plugged into the switch. Perhaps I misconnected it somewhere along the way?

Could someone else with one of these machines take some notes or photos for me? I need to get this project finished and get the use of my desk back!

Thanks,

-Jason
