Perhaps I misunderstand, but I'd suppose the bigger issue is likely this:

For a dc42 file, all of the data for the image comes before all of the tags, whereas with the BLU hard disk images, the tag data for a sector comes immediately after the sector's data. eg.

DC42:
  header sector0 sector1 sector2 {more} tags0 tags1 tags2 {more}

BLU HD image:
  sector(-1) tags(-1) sector0 tags0 sector1 tags1 sector2 tags2 {more}
