Notes about Low End Mac lists

Over the past week or so, I've noticed a problem with digests on some of the lists -- they're not going out every day like they should. I suspect an "upgrade" to the list server software. I'll have to check with Maclaunch about that....

We're ready to start creating lemlists.com email addresses. Everything should be up and running over the weekend. $5/year POP3 email.

We've got a FAQ up at <http://lemlists.com/email/index.php> that links to terms of service, an end user license agreement, and a form you can use to subscribe.

Payments are currently accepted via PayPal or money order. Coleman Web/Internet Services is kinda small and doesn't yet have a business account. If sending funds, make your money order payable to "Ryan Coleman" and mail it to:

Coleman Web/Internet Services
7 Barton Ave SE
Suite 1
Minneapolis, MN 55414

We'll begin working on our list management software in the coming days. Features will include:

  1. A single unified subscriber list. No more emails back from me asking, "Which list?"
  2. A Web interface for managing your subscription using the password we'll issue you. You'll be able to change your email address, subscription mode, set things to vacation, etc. via your favorite Web browser.
  3. Multiple email addresses tied to your subscription. Your primary address will receive list mailings, but you'll be able to post from up to three alternates. We'll also be able to use these addresses to contact you if we get bounces at your primary address.
  4. A single ongoing archive for each list. No more partial archive at maclaunch and partial archive at mail-archive.com.
  5. Every message on each list will have a unique message ID, making it easier to track threads and find articles in the digest.

Lots more ideas to work on, like automatically stripping HTML from styled emails, more helpful messages from the list server, protecting addresses from spammer's address harvesting equipment, dealing with the way AOL handles mailto: links, etc.

It may take some months before we can leave the maclaunch server behind, but when we do we will have the best list management program I can dream up.

As always, the lists will remain free. Using a lemlists.com email address will help defray our hosting costs.

We'll keep you posted as things progress and may be asking for a few guinea pigs to help with software testing later this month.
