It's basically a seagate 5MB drive with a special controller from Apple. It's not formatted in a normal way, so if you just have the same seagate MFM drive, it won't work. Stock drives lack a special ROM that allows it to be low level formatted. It's possible to low level format these using an Apple II/III with the appropriate replacement eeprom + software on the Apple II/III.
