i got my three widgets going and when they run, i've put them there for a couple of hours sitting on their side outside the case. one of the drives sounded like a f16 coming over, but even after a couple of minutes the sound became less and was after a couple of hours completely gone to a normal hum. by putting them on their side, the grease inside the ball bearings got heated up and melted between the balls again. never had a startup problem since.
oh and rubbing the edge connectors with a smooth pencil eraser helps a lot with the jumping screen problems...
