Be sure to do the battery removal, if you have them. Probablydon't on that machine, but removing them is really good advice.
If you have the older single sided floppy, the felt pad is probably
missing. You can replace it with a felt pad from the hardware store;
they are used for no-scratch feet and are not hard to find. Be very
careful of the delicate little plastic parts in the drive. They will be very
brittle and break easily.
And I heartily agree-don't power up any more than you have to. If
your power supply is going to fry, that's when it will go. (If you
hold down the Apple key when you hit the power button and use
the environments window to restart, you can avoid some power
cycling.)
(BTW I will be completing the power supply repair guide as time
permits. It needs pictures and instructions for building a test jig.)
