« on: March 14, 2025, 02:51:02 pm »

Does anyone have a source for 800k Mac System 7.1 images?

www.macintoshrepository.org seems to be down.

What is the highest version of System 7 supported by MacWorks II pro ? My install document mentions 7.1

I think the maximum that will run is something like 7.5.5. However, I found that beyond 7.1 there is a lot of bloat and it doesn't run as smoothly with obvious sluggish points with no real benefit from the added 'features'.

I use / recommend 7.0.1* as being a good compromise of new features with reasonable performance. IIRC, 7.1 is good too.

Note that you need more than 2MB of RAM to do anything with System 7.

* The "*" is actually an option-8 bullet character; Apple released an official update to System 7.0.1 that added this bullet to the version number. AFAIK, they didn't make that mistake again :)

(Will move this topic to the MW+II area.)

edit - footnote about "*"

This seems to work for me right now, if it is still inaccessible then your ISP may be blocking it. In that case let us know and we'll find an alternate.

That is really interesting. It doesn't run from my work machine or my home machine but my phone the site comes right up. I'll have to check my firewall.
