You are absolutely right!
The CF card format is proprietary!
I read about it after I posted
my question to the list.

I think the eprom is o.k. but
it could be bad. One thing I
want check is the reliability
of the SCSI card. Sorry I can't
provide you with the source.

I'm going to try booting from
a floppy and seeing if a known
good SCSI drive mounts. That
should prove if the SCSI card
is good.
