Notes from Mom

Thanks to a suggestion from the SuperMacs list, I now have direct links to the archives for all but two lists right in the footers. (System6 and NewtonList members, I'm working on it.)

I have tried to make the footers (just below the index in digest mode) as concise as possible. It lists the URL for the list FAQ, the address you use to post messages, the address you use to switch to feed or digest mode, the address you use to unsubscribe, and the address you should contact me with about list problems.

BTW, "feed mode" is single messages. I don't care for the name "feed," but it's what the list server uses.

It's come up on a couple lists recently -- you can't change your subscription address. Instead, subscribe from the new address, then unsubscribe from the old one.

Never send unsubscribe messages to the list. There's a special address for that, and it's in each footer (or just below the index in digest mode).

Only use <listmom_at_email.domain.hidden> to contact me about the lists and/or subscription problems. I try to deal with these each day, except on weekends.

Please be careful to quote selectively -- just the part of the message you're replying to. If you quote the whole original right through the footers, I will send you a note. If you do it too often, I may block you from posting.

Please be sure to quote a bit of what you're replying to so we have a clue.

Never use the ***-requests_at_email.domain.hidden address. The correct posting address is noted in the list FAQ and in the footer. Any email sent to the wrong address will be discarded.

Don't ask me to reset your subscription in response to bounce notices. I can't do it. These replies have to come from your email address.

Some email programs apparently *don't* strip the "mailto:" part of addresses. If you're using one of them, you'll have to strip that part manually.

Please spell check before posting. Not only does it make you look more intelligent, it also makes it easier for those who are not native English speakers. Also, a quick proofread for punctuation, capitalization, etc. will make things easier for all of us.

When possible, provide a full URL and put it between the <> symbols when mentioning a site or page. These symbols help email clients know exactly where a URL starts and ends -- very useful when it's over one line long.

On Compact Mac, Vintage Macs, and Quadlist, please don't post "see the FAQ" responses without also answering the question. Remember, some people have email access but may not have access to the Web (e.g., Juno users).
