Original Mac Portable disposal

At the end of last school year in June of this year I had a call from a teacher who offered me 40+ working old Mac portables for free if I hauled them away. Where could I store 40+ of these vintage computers and what would I do with them ? I had to decline his offer and he told me they were going to the landfill. He was keeping the Apple black carrying cases to use for storing other stuff in his classroom. Those black carrying cases are rare enough by themselves.   In 2005 hearing about a classroom still using the Mac Portable is surprising. He had the Apple portable batterys modified by removing the lead acid cells and replacing them with rechargable cells by a local battery dealer. Some had memory upgrades and all had their modems installed. His classroom was being converted to IBM Windoze laptops. I bet his students just love Windoze XP.

I am assembling a hands-on micro computer museum and learning center.

I have my eye on two school busses going up for auction - one for Apples and the other... well for Oranges. I can have the busses towed to different schools for maximum access to students with the possibility of checking out Apple II+EGSes and educational software for use at home by serious students who do not have access to a computer at home and need some help with academics or computer skills including programming.

A library of software, mannuals and books is kept for reference rather than to be kept on the busses. A partial library will be on each bus with materials related to the computers on each bus along with the history of micro computers.

I have been collecting micro computers for the museum for a number of years now along with peripherals, software, mannuals and books. They now fill most of a two car garage and two bedrooms. People have already been making donations of computers, peripherals, mannuals and books that they were going to throw out and were looking for a good home for

I have not been able to get any Lisas as they tend to be expensive. The main reason I joined the Lisa list was to get more information about these relatively rare and, hence, expensive historical gems. I definitly have a good place and good use for any that are destined for throw out. I am learning about getting the program set up as a non profit organization but have not begun to file yet, wanting to have the busses first to show some sort of "housing", other than my home, for the program.

If you hear of anyone getting ready to just throw out any Lisa computers, peripherals, software, mannuals and/or books, please let them know of this musuem for their consideration.
