Do you know how many bad blocks the ProFile has? If you take the cover off and turn the drive on, you can watch the arm on the side of the stepper motor. Every time it goes back to the start during the self test it's skipping a bad sector. As I recall anything more then 10 is bad, and the drive stops working at 13 bad sectors.
