Note that the hack that I came up with for the serial number check just knocks it out of the installer. There may be further checks that I'm unaware of, which might be the cause of this. It may well be doing exactly what it was designed to do if moved from one machine to another. Or, maybe there's some corrupted startup file somewhere in the path from kernel to initd to getty.

I'd like to be able to answer that it behaves the same, or not, on LisaEm, however, I can't get past it not liking the Profile emulation, so I can't tell just yet.

If you're worried about serial emulation, take a look at z8530.c from LisaEm and implement what it does - that part works.

You could also emulate enough of a serial port to let it know that there's nothing there and move on to the next thing that it needs.
