I've done this before, you have to press Control Enter on the other machine. Enter just returns you to the start of the line.

There is also a terminal app in the Workshop, and it runs a lot faster then Lisa Term (probably because the rest of the OS isn't there in the background hogging recourses) IIRC it was called Transfer. You can see it doing a directory listing, and it's also in one of the 'menus'
