Corrosion abatement

Hi Tom,
I'd be careful cleaning boards that already work. However, if you do it the right way, you should be fine. When I clean my corroded boards, I soak them in 50/50 vinegar and water. This serves to neutralize any remaining acid that may be still eating at the traces. After you're done soaking the board (a few hours later), take out the board and dry it as much as possible with a cloth. After this step, I always take a can of compressed air and blow out as much water as I can from under the chips, then dry the board, then repeat. This task is a bit tedious, but it will prevent water from pooling under the chips and rusting legs. After you've dried it to an extent that no more water comes out from the chips, wait at least 24 hours so the board can dry out fully. After this, you should be back in business. Please note that this process could damage the board if done incorrectly or rushed, but in the long run, your board will be much healthier and more enduring if the remaining acid is neutralized as soon as possible. Feel free to contact me with any other Lisa questions you may have.
-Tom
