Yeah, I vaguely recall that the installer checks for the number of spared (bad) blocks on the Widget/Profile drive. If it's over some threshhold, it will refuse to install on that drive since the disk is too damaged for a safe install. That might be what's happening there. It will also fail if it can't zero out the disk, or when it verifies that what was written isn't there.
(I remember seeing those symptoms when I first wrote the profile emulation code, and it was incorrectly writing data to the virtual drive.)
Or it might be a bad or unreadable install floppy too. :-)
