Hi Ray,

>> Sounds good, I'd like to suggest adding the rest of the uucp suite if
not already done and if possible on the RPi, though that may require compiling from sources, etc. That will allow file transfers and all sorts of other goodies, maybe even a usenet beyond just forwarding email, though disk space would be an issue...

For Ubuntu on the RPi, the 'uucp' package installed the suite of packages. I was able to verify file copy operations between the Lisa and the RPi.
>From what I can tell, there is no included Usenet client or proper 'email'
client, though the mail client can be finessed to send/receive Internet email. The included news client does nothing more than echo files from /usr/news. I have been looking for source code to 'mm' and 'rn' from the early 80s, but have come up short. I have yet to hit up the Kermit project and/or Larry Wall =)

>> I guess you followed this: http://www.postfix.org/UUCP_README.html ?

Yes - I used that readme, but also had to dig into the manual to find info on relay configuration, SASL configuration, and more to facilitate relaying thru my local ISP. It's not a very complex configuration, to be honest.

>> I guess ideally if we could provide a raspbian distro that could be
installed via Noobs, that would best. I've sort of built something similar to this last year to build a GNUstep desktop called pios that I haven't completed - I could share the script I used for that to help with this project. Let me know if there's interest.

I tend to do things the hard way, and don't lean enough on tools like this. I'm all for it, though. I simply used Ubuntu server since it's what I'm used to.

>> GPIO serial could work, though you'd likely need a voltage converter, so
USB-to-serial is easier and more straightforward in the long term.

Agreed. I'm thinking of shoving the RPi into the Lisa and powering off the bus. The GPIO would mean one less cable, but I would probably need the TTL/RS232 converter like you mentioned. Right now I'm looking at a small USB->TTL (w/ FTDI) and a TTL->RS232 (ala MAX232), with the RPi mounted to a repurposed Lisa expansion card and powered off the bus. SSH to the WiFi enabled RPi and Minicom to the Lisa. Sounds fun, right? =)

>> (BTW, I think you might mean SMTP up there - SNMP is
networking monitoring as in used by nagios, sensu, prometheus, zabbix, etc.)

You're absolutely right. Acronym fatigue on my part.

If you're interested, I have the config files for the Uniplus side and the Linux side for both Postfix and UUCP
here: https://github.com/arcanebyte/postfix. YMMV.
